Way back when, beautiful Tokoramu Bay was originally know as Toka-a-Namu which referred to an abundance of sandflies in the area but those days are gone and the little pests that are left are old and sleepy. And the little town is far from it's heyday back in the early 1900's when this beautiful old New Zealand Shipping Company building was constructed.
Captain James Cook spent time here in 1769 and The Flying Tortoise was at Tokomaru Bay
just a few days ago.
Funny how we just missed each other...

Looks pretty idyllic Keith, what's that sticking out the front of the Flying Tortoise.....a winch?
ReplyDeleteCheers
Gorgeous place.
ReplyDeleteTime to fit out some square-riggers and reopen the Shipping Company. After all, there's still a perfectly good wharf, with steel tracks no less.
Glad you are taking up the slack posting pretty pictures. We don't want the Internet to feel the lack.
ReplyDeleteSure beats freedom camping at a Walmart.
I know I am being fanciful but what are those vapour trails in photo three?!
ReplyDeleteThere was a UFO in the area at the time.
DeleteThey'd called in for coffee and those lines could their waving goodbye rays. Either that or the sun on the camera lens.
Never stop being fanciful...
Despite the fact being a flying tortoise you finally missed James Cook. But now you have the chance meeting nowadays people and even UFOs.
DeleteWhat a wonderful isolated place... A 'must' to visit.
ReplyDeleteStunning simple beauty, freedom camping at its height. I don't think missing Cap'n Cook was a bad thing, he was funny about freedoms. Reminds me of some stretches of Northern California's Coast.
ReplyDeletewonderful place! did You say bokomaru?

ReplyDeleteI just checked Tokomaru on Google Earth, gorgeous place. Glad you are having fun. We're preparing for gardening and clearing a building spot for a tiny studio just now. Take Care Keith
