Project Straatiokaal. How To Turn A Dumpster Bin Full Of Old Rubbish Into A Tiny Home...

Artists Rikkert Paauw and Jet van Zwieten of FOUNDation Projects in Holland's Utrecht started by having some empty dumpster bins delivered to the town square, the local residents were invited to fill them with 'rubbish' and then the artists proceeded to create tiny homes and temporary shelters using the recycled materials.
Called Project Straatiokaal, it's been used to promote responsible waste management and recycling.
There's more about it here.
Man's ingenuity or necessity being the mother of invention.
Don't you just love the sinkbench door...

Nature Shows How Weaverbirds Create Beautiful Tiny Homes...

The reason these little birds
are called Weaverbirds is obvious.
Once again nature shows us how to do things simply and beautifully.
There are about sixty different Weaverbirds in the species and the male always does the design and building as part of his wooing technique to attract a mate.
A journey begins with a single step and the Weaverbird's exquisite nest begins with a single strand of plant fibre.
You might take a few minutes to see more about them and watch a fascinating BBC video on how they build their beautiful tiny homes.
Nature shows us how. Again. And again...

This Treehouse In Japan Is A High-Rise Apartment Building For The Birds...

The designers at Nendo, led by founder Oki Sato, have created a treehouse for humans that's also a sanctuary for nesting birds.
This Bird Apartment building has been installed at the Ando Manofuku Center in Komoro City.
The mission of the Center is to promote human access to nature and this structure's design allows visitors to the treehouse to get a viewing through the  peepholes into each of the seventy eight separate bird apartments.
The front of each apartment echos that of a human dwelling giving the idea that the designers consider the avian homes are as important as the dwellings occupied by humans.

Off Grid Micro House On Wheels...

Theatrical set designer Glenn Grassi built his micro 12ft by 7ft house, or is it a piece of art, or both, almost completely out of recycled materials.
He's included everything required to live happily and be self contained.
Lift up the bed and there's a shower cubicle.
There's a simple composting or humanure toilet too as you can see.
Just remember to remove the bucket's lid.
And as a further act of conservation, he can use the ashes from the fire to aid the decomposition.
Mr Grassi thinks the little home or stage set might be inhabited by a modern day Thoreau perhaps...
