The Colorado based owner of this once upon a time 1990 Chevrolet school bus was determined to create a vehicle to live in for extended periods of time off grid. It looks like he succeeded.
The fourteen German Sun brand 130 watt panels that are tilted manually, feed eighteen 105amphour Trojan batteries. All that combines with an Outback brand control system.

Jules And Matthew Dreamt Of The Good Life In An Eco Home In The Countryside Built From Scrap Materials. Their Dream's Now A Legal Reality...

Matthew and Jules' dream of the good life in their own eco home somewhere in the countryside made from scrap materials is now a legal reality.
It nearly wasn't though.
Because the process was going to use too much paperwork, time and bureaucratic expenditure they decided to try and build their dream house 'under the radar' and not apply for planning permission.
A risky business as neighbours are likely to dob people in for that sort of behaviour.
They used railway sleepers, truck tyres, scrap metal recycled this and that and wooden pallets to build their eco home away from it all in Beaworthy, a little village with a population of only a few hundred in East Devon.
And over a period of five years, while they lived in a tent on-site, they built their dream without using any power tools.
They have a composting toilet but no electricity and no running water. And they have an underground pantry instead of a fridge.
Sure enough, some neighbours complained as they do and for a while it looked like the Torridge District Council would force them to pull down their dream.
But some sort of rare sanity prevailed and a government planning inspector, impressed by the couple's dedication and passion for sustainable living, ruled the house could stay because of it's eco-credentials.
You see. If you can dream it, you can do it...

I met them a couple of days ago, Freedom Camping at Ohope, a beautiful place to be in New Zealand's Bay Of Plenty.
They'd been on the road just eight days on their way to a new lifestyle in their grand old lady, a 1965 SB3 Bedford. They're planning a lifetime of memories that are yet to happen.
Chrissy was a property manager, Richard's a plumber and Emma, well, she was a bit shy and didn't tell me what she'd been up to all her life.
But Chrissy and Richard know only too well that it's a rat race out there and they wanted more quality time as a family and to give their daughter the opportunities of a lifetime.
They're not prepared to sit around waiting for them to happen, they're making them happen...

Tim and Hannah's tiny mortgage free off grid cabin with all its innovative, simple and easy to do ideas is deserving of a big round of applause. In fact I'm giving it a standing ovation.
As far as a back to basics tiny home is concerned this little handmade and beautifully rustic 196 square foot cabin in the woods would make even Thoreau proud.
The couple were fortunate enough to have twenty acres of land in California's beautiful Tahoe country and with no blueprints to constrict their imaginations they set about creating and building a space for simply living or should that be living simply.
They've been doing just that for the last couple of years and who knows, may very well keep on doing it forever...
