The Kiravan. When Too Much Is Never Enough...

Sixty something year old inventor and entrepreneur Bran Ferren has a young daughter Kira he thinks the world of and wants to
show it to her.
Young Kira thinks the amazing vehicle her imaginative father has spent four years creating and which has cost millions of dollars, could take her exploring on the moon.
She might be right and another planet could be just the place for the monstrosity.
For her father, too much is never enough and this, this ugly looking vehicle, sorry Bran, built on a Unimog chassis, has an excess of everything and will consume gallons of gas every time the key is turned.
There's more about it here.
Hopefully this isn't the shape of homes on wheels in the future. It's about as far removed from our natural environment as you could get...

  1. Yes, it's over the top. Yes, it's beyond all logic and reason.

However, if you were that kid wouldn't it be cool to have a crazy inventor dad?

  2. Certainly not for the purist. But it takes all types to make a World, and I guess this man is just taking his whole lifestyle along with him. Like a mini suburb on wheels. He's doing it because he can. Typical human male. Aimed to impress the little Lady too. One doesn't have to aspire or admire, just watch and wonder. ....Bee

  4. Oh, I don't know, Keith, I think perhaps you are being a bit too harsh here. Imagine a few carefully-placed wooden shingles, a splash of multi-colour psychedelic painting here and there, and there, and there, a nice cast-iron wood stove with a crooked chimney pipe and the requisite 5-gallon plastic bucket "composting toilet", and this could be a contender for Best-of-Show in the Tiny Homes category.

Oh, and the moon is safe for the time being, no oxygen atmosphere on the lunar surface to run the engine...

    1. Oh you're right. Again. How narrow minded of me, How unthinking. Why didn't I think outside the square as you did. You are a great example of lateral thinking Mr S and I thankyou for your creative contribution. The world is a better place with fair minded and caring people like you in it...

  5. Hope little Kira is enjoying what million dollar daddy is giving her because he won't be around forever and life has a way of pulling the carpet out from under your feet. We who are around daddy's age could tell a lot of here today, gone tomorrow stories but stories like that are best when you collect your own. Darling little Kira, brace yourself.

  6. I kinda like it. It appears on a similar tech level to that dreadful Vogon Constructor Fleet landing craft you posted a couple years back - the one from Dubai or some such place - or even higher tech. But the Kubrick aesthetic works out OK, probably because it's done with love. It has a Captain Nemo fantasy feel to it.

One proviso: one thing this vehicle says is "these people are rich." This could be problematic when driving solo around the world. Therefore, for security purposes they should travel with a couple of large dogs who'll slobber a lot and get hair on the sofa. This should help keep things real.

    1. Yes you're right Val with the comparison with the Dubai disaster. And yes this does have a Captain Nemo fantasy feel to it but I wouldn't wish to make a dog have to live in it. It might be seen as cruelty to animals...
