Not Your Usual Motorhomes...

A couple of the more unusual motorhomes you'll see in New Zealand these days and thank god there are still individualists out there, people with personalities and creative thoughts who are not scared of doing something a bit different.
These examples are simple, spacious and show a bit of Kiwi ingenuity...

What A Great Idea...

What a great idea.
If only we could.
Do you think we might be able to?
Or is it too late?
A mask featuring a caricature of Guy Fawkes has become the very meaningful 'Occupy' symbol for the many hundreds of thousands of protesters worldwide.
Not that their intentions are to blow up the world's parliaments but who knows.
Ironically the giant American film studios, Warner Brothers owns the licensing rights to the caricatured face mask.
I guess their lawyers are getting ready to sue somebody...

(What started as 'Occupy Wall Street' has become 'Occupy Everywhere' with demonstrations at 951 cities in 82 countries
and it's looking to get bigger).

Guy Fawkes...

Guy Fawkes, also known as Guido Fawkes (1570-1606), was the man in charge of the barrels of gunpowder hidden in the cellars during the failed attempt to blow up the English House of Lords in 1605.
Personally I'm hard pressed to think of any political figure or any government in the world who I have the slightest modicum of respect for. They could all do with a charge under them.
So I applaud his intentions...

Inspirational Man Escapes The Rat Race...

Dan Price from Joseph, Oregon, was intent on ridding himself of a mortgage and loved the idea of living in a Tipi.
Following his dream to simplify his life, much more so than most people would dare, he located a couple of acres and in return for a few hours work each week he lived rent free and spent three seasons in his Tipi.
Encouraged by his achievement and knowing that the first goal was always going to be the most difficult, he then built and lived in a nine by twelve foot red willow hut and after that, another even smaller building.
Then, he dug into the hillside and made a tiny underground home with a skylight. He's been living happily in his Hobbit House for ten years.
Have a look at his blog here.

We Are Now Seven Billion...

Have you noticed how crowded it's been lately.
Even getting away from it all's becoming more and more difficult.
The reason is that there are now 7 billion of us who share Planet Earth.
Seven billion people who get hungry and have needs. Most will never be met.
Most disagree with what the other 6,999,999,999 people say and do.
A handful of that seven billion control the world's wealth. They continue to want more.
Their greed is destroying our world.
Our world isn't a global village.
It's a global monster. Out of control!
There are so many who, simply, unfortunately, will exist here only for a short, painful time and then die. Unfulfilled human beings.
Because the problems are so widespread it's become increasingly difficult for an individual to do anything to help.
Perhaps the only way to make a difference and I acknowledge it seems selfish, is to fix our own little corners of the world, to try and make sure that the people and things around us are as good as they can be.
The world has become big, ugly and impersonal.
Let's get back to small, beautiful and personal...

Some Turtles Have Nice Shells...

I've been meaning to have a copy of Roger Beck's wonderful book 'Some Turtles Have Nice Shells' in The Flying Tortoise's library for years, so when Vicky visited a few weeks ago waving her copy and teasing me with it, there was only one thing to do.
Get my own copy as fast as snail mail can go!
I collected it from my post box yesterday.
What a delight.
Another of those wonderful, must have inspirational classics that stimulate the mind and remind the world that it was, once, a saner place, a better place...
