The Japanese know well how to combine traditional style with simple modern pure minimalist design and have influenced many of the world's leading architects.
Here with this little house on wheels is a fusion of 'western' exterior styling with some of the Japanese philosophies one would see in a traditional Tea House such as Wabi-Sabi and the use of natural materials. We see the use of the wonderful Tatami mats too in this delightful one hundred and thirty four sq foot house.
There's more about living with less here...

Kintsugi. The Japanese Method Of Creating Art From Broken Ceramic Objects...
Kintsugi or Kintsukuroi is the Japanese way of honoring and repairing broken ceramic objects with a special lacquer mixed with silver,
gold or platinum.
As a philosophy Kintsugi can be seen to have similarities to the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, an embracing of the flawed or imperfect. Perfection being seen as the result of imperfection.
The damaged or flawed being honored as an essential in enhancing an object.
The beautiful pieces here were restored by Morti and Patty at the Lakeside Pottery and Ceramics Restoration Studio.
Kintsugi Do-It-Yourself kits are available also should you wish to embrace this particular

For Everyone Who Enjoys The Rustic Charms And Design Surprises Over At Cabin Porn...
You know by now that I really enjoy things rustic and imperfect and there's much to be found like that over at Cabin Porn.
It's the Wabi-Sabi in things and nature that makes me smile.
Perfection caused by imperfection.
There's a few wonderful examples in the images here and in particular the last two. Look at the contrast between the rough exterior wood sheathing and the modern minimalist concrete or stone interior...

The Natural And Simple Beauty Of Wabi-Sabi...

the Japanese Wabi meaning humble and Sabi which suggests beauty.
Wabi-Sabi invites us to set aside the pursuit of manufactured perfection and appreciate the simple, unaffected, uncluttered beauty of things as they are.
To create a true harmonious Wabi-Sabi environment we will strip away excesses and be happy with how something is in it's unadorned state at that moment.
Through the Wabi-Sabi philosophy we appreciate the modest, the handmade, the recycled, the cracks, the mistakes, the frayed edges, rust, the natural aging caused by the ravages of time and weather.
The marks that loving use has left behind.
The aging lines on our faces, that when left alone, add to and enhance our personalities, that without fads like botox and plastic surgery, tell our life stories. That add to our character and say unashamedly who and what we are.
To know about Wabi-Sabi is to learn more about less and there's more about less here.
Following Wabi-Sabi, we find that perfection is the result of imperfection...
