Classic Campervans From Wayback When...

Here's a nostalgia trip for you.
A '67 VW Westfalia. A 1960's Morris Minor.
An English Motorhome and then an early American fifth-wheeler.
The little blue Bedford. One of the very first Airstreams, a 1935 model.
And thankyou Mr Sharkey who apart from seeing more motorhomes than I've had hot dinners, tells me this strange looking motorhome is a Travco which is built on a Dodge chassis.
The last one Ches tells me is a Cadillac.
Did someone say they don't make 'em like they used to...

A Solar Powered Camel...

The Camel as we know,
was originally designed by a committee.
When the committee, obviously a different one, designed this particular camel,
they got it right.
They gave it a solar powered beer fridge.
They knew the owner/driver was going to get thirsty treking through the hot desert, so what better than to be able to stop for a cold Bud or Steinie or Heinie or whatever along the way.
Maybe a freshly squeezed cold orange juice under the shade of a palm tree...

High Fashion...

Simple and stunning!
This Top Belt Jumpsuit designed by the fashion house Victor and Rolf is so simple,
stylish and elegant.
Some might even say, a bit below the belt...

Cute Colourful Cheerful Caravans...

Our lives are so often limited by a lack
of imagination and the need to conform.
I don't know where most of these cute little caravans come from but,
I thought they'd crease your cheeks...

If You Go Down To The Woods Today...

If you go down to the woods today,
you'll get an even bigger surprise.
There's no teddy bears at this picnic.
Just lot's of Lumberjills.
Well I think that's what you'd call lady Lumberjacks.
It's good they're wearing so much
protective safety gear...

Being A Gypsy...

I was asked the other day about
why I choose to live as a Gypsy, a Nomad,
an Itinerant and what if anything did I miss that a more conventional land dweller might have.
I really had to think about it.
It would have been easy to say I miss an en-suite with unlimited hot water for bathing
or a fully equipped laundry
but neither would really be true.
What is something I miss by not having
a land base?
Of course! The only thing I might miss.
It's something to satisfy my 'squirrelling instincts'.
It's a woodshed!
A woodshed?
Yes, a simple woodshed...

The Quietest Place In The World...

It's the world's quietest room.
This room, the 'Anechoric Chamber' at Orfield Laboratories in the US is 99.99% sound absorbent.
The Guinness Book of World Records says it's the quietest room on the planet.
Apparently it's so quiet, staying in there for a time will drive you insane.
Nobody has been able to be in the room for more than forty five minutes.
The only noises you hear emanate from your own body. Fluids gurgling, joints creaking, your breathing and your heart pumping.
Sounds like fun...

Soaking Up Vitamin D At The Katikati Naturist Park...

You'll know that the beautiful Katikati Naturist Park is one of my favourite places.
Vanessa and Daniel from Vancouver are here soaking up the life-enhancing Vitamin D as I am.
When Daniel's not designing things back home they spend months at a time travelling New Zealand in their little Toyota van named 'Ara Tika' with it's simple, bohemian hand-crafted wooden interior.
They're enjoying  the fresh food, excellent local wines and the do-it-yourself attitude that still prevails in this country.
'I know that necessity is the mother of
invention but I'm inspired by the simple, creative ideas that you people employ to solve everyday living problems' says Daniel.
Like so many these days, Vanessa and Daniel are into eliminating material possessions,
downsizing and living large in small spaces...

It's Simple. It's Portable. It Works...

It's not quite as basic as a hole in the ground
but a hole in the ground isn't portable.
It's nearly as simple as a bucket with a lid
and it's bio-degradable.
It has a very 'in your face' name.
The manufacturers haven't beaten
around the bush here.
They've made a 'shitbox' and they're proud of it.
The Shitbox is a lightweight, rigid, re-usable portable, cardboard toilet made specifically for outdoor use.
It's suitable for anyone under a hundred kg or sixteen stone.
It comes with ten bio-degradable waste bags.
It's easily made up from a flat pack and it comes with a carry bag.
If you want to know more on shitting in and on some alternative toilets, have a look here.
Poo's an interesting subject.
Maybe we'll talk about it again.
Another day...

Who's Fault Is It...

I'm sure the problem's at your end.
No, everything's very tidy here.
Yes, I've double checked.
Not a loose connection in sight.
Hello, can you hear me...

Another Amazing Species...

The Mwanza Flat-headed Agama is a most beautiful lizard found in
Tanzania, Riwanda and Kenya.
They're also known these days as The Spiderman Lizard and kept as pets
but that's another story.
Growing up to 30 centimetres or one foot long, these highly coloured examples are all males of the species.
The females are all dull brown.
Charles Darwin would have had plenty to say about the origins of this species...

Charles Darwin...

Charles Darwin was born in 1809 and died
this day in 1882.
He presented man with the concept of Evolution.
Mankind is still evolving.
Backwards it seems...
