Sixteen Year Old Laura Dekker Sails Solo Around The World And Into Whangarei...

Sailing solo around the world is a big deal!
Climbing Everest is a big deal too but one is a team effort, the other's been likened to being in solitary confinement in a small cell with the possibility of drowning.
For Laura, it's a wonderful feeling
to have fulfilled this dream.
She's justified the faith she, her parents
and others had in her.
She's silenced those who said
she couldn't and shouldn't.
I talked with her for a few minutes yesterday,
in between the TV interviews and the media journalists at Whangarei's beautiful Town Basin Marina where she and Guppy will be for the foreseeable future.
And the home town she was born in and she'll come back to after flying to New York next week to celebrate her seventeenth birthday.
She's delighted to be here and Whangarei is delighted to have her back.
