Birds Of A Feather...

To cap off an unusual bout of discoveries on Uretiti Beach, this morning this feather was found by some schoolchildren on holiday here.
It is thought to have come from an artistically designed hat belonging to one Alice Treadwell who went missing while wearing her wonderful creation on Tuesday 14 March, 1956 as she was ambulating on this very stretch of sand.
She was never seen again.
'That is the exact feather she wore' said her long time friend, Phyllis Footloose, now 106 years old and living in a resthome just north of Cape Reinga. 'I would never, ever, forget that feather or that wonderful hat', said Phyllis.
Asked what the secret was for her longevity, she said, 'I can't remember...'

Another Missing Soul...

Authorities are now looking for another person with a right shoe missing and have grave fears for their safety. This afternoon, just a few minutes ago, another right shoe was found some metres away from this mornings macabre finding and Search and Rescue personnel are mystified and even nonplussed by what seems to be a spate of footwear being found on this beautiful Northland beach.
Something's afoot but what?

Authorities are concerned for the safety of a person with their right shoe missing after this one was found washed up with other detritus on Northland's Uretiti beach after a recent storm.
If you have any idea who it might be, or where they are, please contact someone...

A Ryokan is a small Japanese inn one might stay awhile but it is also a combination of Japanese art and culture of bygone centuries.
Here in this Koneman published treasure trove are examples of architecture, woodblock printing, ceramics, clothing and cuisine.
After reading this book a long time ago, I had to search the world for my own copy.
It was worth it...
