Did You Know That Under The Amazing Easter Island Heads, There Are Bodies...

Easter Island is one of the most remote but inhabited islands in the world some two thousand miles off the coast of Chile.
For years their amazing ancient Moai statues which were carved by the Rapu Nai people many years ago have fascinated all who've actually seen them close up and most who have only seen photographic images.
Thought to be only heads somehow positioned on the ground, scientists discovered a couple of years ago that the heads actually have bodies.
The largest is seventy feet tall and evidently weighs two hundred and seventy tons.
If you didn't know, you do now...

  1. Astonishing! I'm amazed. And yet it makes a kind of sense. I presume they must have buried these bodies deliberately - but why?

I have to say I've never cared for the Easter Island statues. I find them sinister. Why so much energy poured into so many statues that all look alike? It seems obsessive. I find believable the theory that their creation contributed to the downfall of the society that produced them.

  2. WERE THEY PURPOSELY BURIED?
WHAT DO THE CARVINGS ON THEM REPRESENT?
THANKS FOR THE INFO-- NEVER HEARD OF IT.

  3. This was a joke for years. But it's true for some of the heads. Could just be grave stones for the Kings or royalty.

  4. When I first read about this, it seemed incredible that it hadn't been discovered ages ago. Wasn't anyone just a little more curious to see if anything was under those 'heads'? I knew I should have been an archeologist! Next time.
