Well heck, there is always something I need.
ReplyDeleteGet rid of the TV and you won't know what you are missing.
ReplyDeleteThat's a misprint. You need LESS stuff. Anyone who has ever tried less knows that it's not deprivation to have less but actually liberation.
ReplyDeleteI was just in Canada and it was amazing how much stuff there was I 'wanted' - happily, I left most of it on the shelves. A 20 foot houseboat and a 20 foot motorhome don't work well with lots of stuff, as lovely and clever as some of it is!
ReplyDeleteI think this needs to be put in context. For those in the industrialized world who have the option of doing with less rubbish (and therefore less debt), it's a liberation. For those in extreme poverty without access to running water, food, medicine or basic sanitation, less is definitely less. Moreover, the more people who, having the choice, choose to do with less frivolous and burdensome crap, the more resources needed for basic life support are likely to become available to those who really need it. Consumerism kills.
