We Shall Remember Them...

Today we commemorate ANZAC Day.
One hundred years ago in 1915, thousands of brave young men, boy soldiers, Australians, New Zealander's and Turks died at Gallipoli in what was then called The War To End All Wars.
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We shall remember them.
From For The Fallen by Laurence Binyon
Sadly it wasn't the war to end all wars, was it...

The Pogues do say it well with The Band Played Waltzing Matilda...

  2. As long as there are couple of people left alive in this world, there will still be the chance of a war. . .

  3. I don't have kids, but friends of mine do. I would do whatever was in my power to prevent their going to some stupid war, there to be maimed or slaughtered for no good end. What an appalling and atrocious waste of life. Let the potentates and plutocrats and profiteers go do the fighting themselves, among themselves.

It seems to me that people don't hate war the way they ought to, at least not until it happens to them. It should be regarded with the utmost loathing. Whatever happened to the peace movement?

    1. You are right Val.
Perhaps we should start up a Peace Movement and Protest for Peace.
A ludicrous idea but it might catch on...

  4. No... It wasn't the war to end all wars, there was a 2nd world war... I agree with Val, I do have kids Val and would fight like you to prevent such a waste of life... But then we do have freedom!

  5. Peace movements are alive and well. They just don't get heard. Stop the War in Coalition in the UK is very active. The Global Women's Peace Iniative is another, working in a different way.

No different from any other war -- leading children off to DIE flying a flag and waving a LIE.
