I've been protesting against injustices since I was a teenager. I didn't think I'd still be doing it when I was ninety said Hedy Epstein as she
was arrested yet again.
A resident of St Louis, a political activist, speaker and Holocaust survivor, she's widely known for her support of the Free Gaza Movement.
When arrested, Hedy was one of the people 'failing to disperse' from the Kiener Plaza in St Louis while protesting against the shooting of Ferguson teenager Michael Brown.
We need to stand up to injustices today so people won't have to when they're ninety said the gutsy grandmother.
I don't know Hedy. Sadly I don't think things are going to change for the better anytime soon...

Arrested or not, here is a woman who acts on what she believes to be the right thing while many stand by and do nothing. She knows that belief is like electricity. It's not enough to passively believe that electricity will turn the light on but you need to take action and flick the switch to make light happen.
ReplyDeleteLove her.Peace
ReplyDeleteWonderful! We need people like Hedy, we need to follow her example and speak out whether we expect a result or not.
ReplyDeleteIt always looks bad when they arrest 90 year old grannies.
ReplyDeleteI read one of your older posts the other day (nov. 2010). The words of Martin Luther King: "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter". I believe Hedy know the meaning of these words by heart. A wonderful and powerful lady.
ReplyDeleteI bet she hoped she wouldn't have to be protesting at 90, but yes, I'm afraid the world is going to be full of things to protest long after all of us are dust.
ReplyDeleteShe looks pretty awesome for her age
ReplyDeleteHow easy to stand in the street with a sign. It is more difficult to be part of a community and individual lives and aware of ALL the ramifications of what one might "protest" rather than jumping on the "cause du jour" and failing to grasp the full picture just the politics. This is NOT that impressive. Her accomplishment is frail brained "activism". NOT involvment which is a day by day commitment.
