Renaissance artist and craftsman Michael Ostaski built this incredible Land Yacht or if you like, Housetruck, back in the 1960's.
He lived in it for eighteen years and travelled around the US, especially the west coast where it's been seen and admired by thousands at the many art festivals over the years.
Not that roadworthy any more, the beautifully appointed home on wheels is for sale with its pellet stove, sunken shower, stained glassand other features will probably see out its days parked up somewhere equally beautiful.
Aficionados of the housetrucking scene will recognise Michael's famous home on wheels from the books Rolling Homes and Some Turtles Have Nice Shells.
And then there's this informative YouTube clip.
Happy dreaming...

What a work of art. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThat is quite a housetruck!! Do you get a commission when he sells it since you advertised it?
ReplyDeleteI don't do things for money here DD.
DeleteAn amazing home on wheels isn't it.
They don't make them like this anymore...
Well, actually, they do still make them like this, or at least Michael does, he is building a replacement housetruck on a more modern chassis.
ReplyDeleteAlso, FYI, the featured truck was built in the mid-1970's, rather than the 60's. I know, because I was there (watching the truck being built, as well as living in the 1970's)
Thankyou my friend and font of all knowledge when it comes to housetrucks in the US.
DeleteCan't wait to see Michael's new version...
You can see it here http://www.nomadicista.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2986
DeleteThanks Stu...
DeleteThis is the housetruck I keep going back to see on YouTube since it's soooo amazing. It's just the right size to park in my yard. Does he deliver to Europe?
