The beautiful little one room Morioka Shoten is a bookstore in Tokio that displays one very carefully selected book at a time,
It's a long long way from the not so gentle giant Amazon who's existence has been responsible for putting thousands of traditional bookstores around the world out of business.
The little bookshop displays perhaps the most ultimate minimalist philosophy, desiring that the potential reader has the opportunity to focus on just the one very carefully selected item rather than being deluged by choice. How beautiful.
An oasis of calm in the retailing storm...

Mike Dodge Lives In A Tree, Travels Barefoot And Cleans His Teeth With A Pinecone...
Mike Dodge is a legend in his own lunchtime. And he's evidently, according to National Geographic's television series The Legend Of Mick Dodge, the Pacific Northwest Survivalist.
Twenty five years ago, so the story goes,
Mick Dodge walked away from the modern world, leaving civilization behind to live with nature's wonders in the Olympic Peninsula.
Following a primal instinct present throughout generations of his family, Mick ventured deep into the Hoh Rainforest, making his home in the trees and hidden in the moss.
There's more here about the back to nature life of Mick Dodge, a quirky character whose unique brand of Zen comes from living by his own code. Off the land and off the grid.
And so the story goes, this wild man philosopher cleans his teeth with a pinecone...

Swedish Architect Nils Luderowski Builds This Very Beautiful Japanese Treehouse In New York...
I call it Scandanese.
It's when the beautiful simplistic qualities of Scandinavian design and the equally simple beauty of Japanese tradition combine to create the aesthetic harmony we see here.
Nils Luderowski, a Swedish architect domiciled in New York's Keene Valley has very successfully combined the best of both worlds using a mix of Swedish and Japanese elements in his wonderful Reinhold Treehouse at Long Lake in upstate New York.
Beautiful isn't it...

The Beautiful Tiny Yakushima Takatsuka Lodge In Japan Is Made From Recycled Cardboard And Paper Tubes...

and paper tubes.
It's been designed by Shigeru Ban Architects who are famous for their use of reclaimed paper products in their projects.
There's more to know here.
The opaque cardboard and transparent paper tubes which allow the light to enter can easily be replaced when over time and the ravages of the harsh mountain environment, they become damaged.
The tiny house was built on existing foundations, left vacant by a dismantled cabin so the new structure didn't disturb the delicate
balance of nature...

The Main Rest And Recreation Area On The Flying Tortoise...
The main rest and recreation area on The Flying Tortoise. Geraniums, salad greens and herbs can be seen growing in containers out the back window. Roller blinds give privacy and there is a full width storage shelf high above the bed. Using different cushions allow simple mood and decor changes. Small pieces of New Zealand art are displayed throughout the quirky, tiny but spacious home with a style combining simplistic Scandinavian and Japanese design... Scandinese perhaps. A warm and inviting interior with the ambiance of a small upmarket studio apartment.
