The Ufogel Has Landed...

It's as if an alien but contemporary object of some sort has landed in a field in the East Tyrolian village of Nussdorf, a popular skiing area in Austria.
It sits on its stilts or legs and because it looks remotely, very remotely, like a UFO or even some sort of bird, albeit a very strange bird,
it's called Ufogel.
Fogel means bird in German.
The strange angular object was designed to connect with nature.
I wonder, did the designers realise there are no straight lines in nature?
Anyway, so the story goes it is designed to embrace and cradle its guests in a warm and safe haven, a cosy nest covered with traditional wooden shingles, and one that offers security and openess.
If you're planning a skiing holiday in the region and looking for accommodation with a difference, you may or may not wish to check it out...

  1. At least it's not just another box on the hill. I kinda like it.

  2. Very creative and modern which is what I usually like but this building doesn't really deliver for me. Too austere and colorless. On the other hand, if someone wishes to check it out, is the holiday house of husband and wife team Leon Luxemburg and Regina Pizzinini. It too is in Austria in the Ă–tztal Valley. Despite the angular shape it has lots of warmth and coziness.

  3. Sorry Val, everybody has their own opinion of what is cozy and what isn't. I'm sure you have wonderful taste. There are probably a zillion people out there who would agree with you rather than me but variety is the spice of life.

  4. Hi Suzy. I just find the bleached-blond angularity and that metal backing to the steel (or possibly aluminum) counter a little chilly aesthetically. Also, the railing of the stair (interior) is a bit too minimalist for my taste. And I don't see any place where you would dare hang a picture. The architect has probably installed a little gnome, hidden but ready to pop out and slap you on the wrist for trying.

I'm not saying I wouldn't find it cosy if I came across it while wandering in a snowstorm in my pajamas - especially with a hot toddy waiting and a fire in the stove. I do like the stove - it has that Vernian look, like a little steam engine.
