How A Group Of Brave Divers Saved This Trapped Humpback Whale From Dying...
You may already know this incredible story.
It happened back in 2013.
A fisherman spotted this female humpback just east of the Farallon Islands, about twenty seven miles west of San Francisco and radioed for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so badly off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her, a very dangerous proposition.
One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer.
They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her.
When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, nudged them, and pushed gently, thanking them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives.
The diver who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same again.
Who would be...

If PEOPLE could only be so appreciative!
ReplyDeleteNice to see humans behaving empathically for a change.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Japanese want to eat them.Shame.
ReplyDeleteSaw a video of divers rescuing a dolphin trapped in fishing line on "Nature" & the dolphin also "thanked" each diver & then did belly flops of pure joy! She followed their boat for quite awhile.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine anything more mysterious and wonderful than a whale's eye looking at me....!
ReplyDeleteWhat amazing creatures, I am sure there is an awful lot we can still learn from them.
ReplyDeletemakes me cry..
ReplyDeleteWhen my dad was a toddler, he wandered out, unnoticed, to the ocean at the family beach house. He was swept out by tides & he vividly remembers a dolphin pushing him, over & over, until he was safe on shore.
