This Gorgeous Old City Of London Double Decker Bus Will Make A Wonderful Home On Wheels...

There's only thirteen of these gorgeous old Ladies of The Road left in the world and two of them are in New Zealand.
This 1952 AEC City of London double decker bus could end up being a wonderful home on wheels for someone.
It's been a labour of love over the last fifteen years for the owners, Lynette and Bevan, who've been carefully restoring their dream bus.

A Beautiful Bedford Housebus...

It's nearly time for another laid-back Bedford Rally and again this year it'll take place at Lance Cryer's 'Bedford Heaven' at Puriri, just south of Thames on the Coromandel Peninsular.
Once again, Bedford owners will arrive from all corners of New Zealand for the opportunity to talk about and show off their Beddies.
And full-time housebusers Rudy and Els will be there in their wonderful and innovative 1965 Bedford SB3.
It's only eight metres long but every bit of space has been used wisely and creatively. There's a garage cum workshop down the rear that can hold a couple of motorcycles at least.
The rustic woodwork throughout the buses' interior is rich in flavour and texture as only natural wood can be.
Some delightful features include the popout dining area and the popout bedroom with those wonderful double doors opening up on whatever views are fancied.

A Tiny Trailer Home That's Big On Style, Form And Function...

I found the Tiny Tack House over at Kent Griswold's Tiny House Blog.
The story of Malissa and Christopher Tack and how and why they built their very practical tiny house.
Very much a traditional tiny house in the style of Jay Shafer's Tumbleweed homes, the owners particularly like the idea of complete independence, living off grid with only solar panels for their power supply, a generous amount of water in storage tanks and not having an albatross around their necks in the form of a thirty year mortgage.
They've put together a delightful blog of their tiny home planning, building and living experience.
It's worth a visit.
They are now looking forward to their future with the freedom a tiny house of only about 200sq feet gives them to live.

The Flying Tortoise. Latest Developments...

The latest photos and story of The Flying Tortoise...This photo shows the two 125watt BP Solar panels atop the bus. They and an additional 85watt BP panel (used in winter) provide ample energy to the two 255amp hour AGM storage batteries. Having used solar power exclusively on yachts and on the road for the last twenty years I know you can never have too much solar and combined with the right storage capacity you will never go short of power.
There are eighteen cigarette lighter sockets installed inside the bus that allow the laptop, dvd music player and other things to plug in wherever required.
The laptop runs off a simple 12volt power adaptor that has multiple settings to accomodate any laptop. A small inverter is sometimes used to charge power tool batteries. A BP 30amp regulator is used plus a Link 10 Xantrex digital display that lets me know exactly the state of my batteries and what I'm using and getting in or how long I have to go before the batteries are even down to half full... It's all piece of mind stuff and it works wonderfully well.
The kayak in it's 'on the road' position. The storage 'shed' at the back which contains tools, outdoor furniture and miscellaneous nonsense was designed to fit in with the look of the bus... with the much photographed garden and then there's the wonderful benches, again made using 32mm aluminium tube and decking timber. There's one on each side... ideal for lying on under the sun, sleeping on, cooking on,filleting fish on, working on or displaying art and craft... folded up they fit snugly against the side of the bus.
Then if you like, there's a simple awning that fits on either side for sun protection or rain catching...
