Thomas Frey Is A Futurist. He's An Architect Of The Future...

Some people trade in futures.
Thomas Frey predicts futures.
He's a self titled Architect of The Future.
He's a lateral thinker and not afraid to take risks with ideas.
His interesting blog The Futurist is here
but let's look at how he sees a new future for public libraries.
The Colorado based Thomas Frey was the keynote speaker at a recent Library conference in New Zealand and told the audience that a new chapter was beginning for libraries as
community based assets.
As well as continuing to loan out books, games, movies and music, they would be lending flying drones, have 3D printers available, become movie and music studios, theatres, that libraries would obtain newly invented products and through corporate sponsorship, make them available for community use.
He has an optimistic view of life as we know it. And that's good...

Let's Do Lunch...

I like this man.
Let's do lunch. You buy! You bet!
He's creative. He's audacious.
He's entrepreneurial.
He's got a great sense of humour.
I'd really enjoy buying him lunch...

Rjuken, The Little Town In Norway That'll Get Its Sunshine From Directional Mirrors...

Deep in the narrow Vestfjord valley in Norway's Telemark, surrounded by steep slopes at the foot of the Gaustatoppen Mountain lies the little industrial town of Rjuken.
Because of its aspect, the town gets no sun for around six months of the year.
Back in 1913, Rjuken's lateral thinker and imaginative founder Sam Eyde came up with the idea of using mirrors to direct the sun into the town and now, a hundred years later, that dream is about to become a reality and letting the sunshine in is all to be done with mirrors.
A computer driven heliostat placed at the top of a steep mountain wall four hundred metres above the town will capture the sun's rays and direct them into Rjuken's town centre illuminating a two hundred square foot area.
Power to the people.
If you can dream it you can do it...

A Fun And Novel Way To Make Hot Running Water...

You know what they say about necessity being the mother of invention.
Well some enterprising lateral thinking and creative soul came up with this novel way to make hot running water.
Not that the water's going to be very hot and nor is it going to run very fast but hey, it's one way to make a califont and get yourself into a bit of hot water...

One Man's Small Footprint...

One giant little home. Built a few years ago in New Zealand's hilly capital where imaginative town planners prevail, Wellington is home to some wonderful inexpensive and innovative design ideas for living in. Here, two shipping containers sit atop a third creating a unique and distinctive living space close to a beautifully rugged coastline.
And the seal colony at Red Rocks...
