The beautiful and remote monastery of Phuktal Gompa situated in the Ladakh district of Jammu and Kashmir is one of the most isolated in all of Northern India.
Founded in the early twelfth century by Gangsem Sherap Sampo, the unique monastery is constructed from mud and timber and sited on the cliff face at the entrance of a natural cave.
There's more here but from a distance it bears a close resemblance to a giant honeycomb.
And this is about as close as most of us
will get to see it...
I bet sleep walkers don't last very long there.
ReplyDeleteSo, no sleepovers. Darn!
ReplyDeleteIf Pakistan ever gets Kashmir, I'm afraid it won't be good news for these Buddhist monks.
