Woops! Not quite a crash landing but I taxied backwards into this bloody big hole in the tarmac and was very nearly grounded.
This is a very remote and beautiful airstrip way up north of New Zealand on the Karikari Peninula and service crew are scarce on the ground. Fortunately there was one other vehicle here and it was just big and grunty enough to pull TFT out of the half metre deep hole.
Luckily there was very little damage, and we're flying again.
Well we will be after a few days R and R...
A hole lot of trouble is right - and they diverted the B52's to ..........?
ReplyDeleteI like the garden on the back lf TFT. You sure are a little off plumb, but that is normal for me.
ReplyDeleteKeith, that looks like Ramp Rd, a very nice spot. Has the approach deteriorated that much? If it is, I had a friend staying there the night of the Japanese tidal wave warning and the same thing happened to them. Consternation.
ReplyDeleteYou're right Harvey, it is Ramp Road. No the approach is fine, no problems. I just reversed without seeing the hole which was covered in grass. If anyone falls in it, they'll break a leg at least... It's a beautiful place, but don't tell anyone...
ReplyDeleteOh dear all's well that ends well but even so it must have been most disconcerting. Must take a lot more than a mere hole to turn a turtle over.
ReplyDeleteI guess it's one way of maxing your soula panels.
ReplyDeleteHappy dayz.
Ps.Satbility is overrrated.
