Don't Fence Me In...

The bureaucrats that are The Department of Conservation continue to not take any notice of what the end user, the camper wants at Port Jackson and carry on carrying on with their arrogance and stupidity, fixing something else that isn't broken. Here the contractors go about their task of placing bollards along the edge of this beautiful campsite.
But nothing's set in concrete...

That's Life...

One of life's little ironies. Oh, and never ask a tyre salesman if you need new tyres...

Lazy Sunday Morning...

This is paradise on a Sunday morning at Coromandel's Port Jackson.
You'll know by now that it's one of my favouritist places on the planet.
The morning started in the best possible way, there were Tui singing in the flax and the sun was shining into TFT around 7am.
Then there was a swim and breakfast will continue in the sun with the sounds of some wonderful opera. Just thought I should come in and share it with you.
Must go, there's Vitamin D to be had...

Portrait Of A Happy And Contented Man...

He's a happily contented man
of which there are too few.
I had the pleasure of spending time and sharing chi with him in his wonderfully simple dwelling recently. It had rained during the night, yes there are a few leaks, so rather than let the opportunity pass, he poured some detergent on the floor and gave it a good scrub.
He's house proud and his vegetable garden is abundant with food.
I'm full of admiration for this man and his dedication to the simple pleasures of life under the sun and under the stars.
He's not one of those Thoreau describes as living lives of quiet desperation...

School's Out...

School's out for these Alfriston College students for a few days as they cycle their way around the glorious Coromandel Peninsula as part of an assessment programme.
It's called 'authentic activity' and it's very character building as well as much fun.
Day one saw them pedal their way sixty two kilometres from Coromandel town to Port Jackson. Here they are just getting ready to leave there and cycle the wonderful coastal road to Fletcher Bay. Then over farmland and a magical bush track to the stunning Stony Bay.
After a night there, it's on to Waikawau and then back from whence they came.
An achievement to ride home about...

Flash In Ja Pan...

Sorry officer, didn't you see my indicator flashing...
Here's one of the ridiculously decorated trucks of Japan, an example of 'Dekotora' which is an abbreviation evidently for decorative trucks.
The interiors of these monsters are often just as garish.
Looking at one while you're driving is likely to have you steering off the road.
But if you can, cruise on over to www.amusingplanet.com to see some more...

Ken The Clocky...

He and his lovely wife June have been here at Port Jackson for a few days.
Ken's fixed and made clocks for many years.
Imagine being able to take a watch to bits, play with its parts, put it back together, have no bits left over and have it tell the time.
Amazing, almost inconceivable isn't it.
He's eighty four and ticking along quite nicely...
