The siege of Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia
and Herzegovina lasted four years and was the longest siege of a capital city in the history of modern warfare.
Steven Galloway, a Canadian author, wrote a wonderfully moving book titled The Cellist Of Sarajevo, an amazing story of the siege and the bravery of this very private and highly talented cellist Vedran Smailovic.
Vedran often played for free at funerals and became famous for playing regularly on the streets of his wartorn city. Mikail Eustafiev took these photos in 1992 of Vedran Smailovic playing his cello in the partially destroyed national library... 

Shanty Town. The Incredibly Bad-Taste Slum Themed Designer Tourist Resort In South Africa...

You have to wonder don't you.
How amazingly low some insensitive entrepeneurs and developers will stoop in their efforts to make a buck.
There can't be too many commercial enterprises that are more bad taste than this slum themed resort in South Africa's Bloemfontein.
It's operated by the Emoya Luxury Hotel.
The designers have paid attention to detail and the huts are made from recycled scrap wood and rusty corrugated iron but are equipped with running water, electricity, underfloor heating and wireless internet.
For authenticity, there's paraffin lamps, candles, battery operated radios and the rich guests who are slumming it are encouraged to heat water on the outdoor fires. Then to really add to the richness of their stay there's the long drop toilet. There's more about this bad taste designer slum resort here.
Some in this world continue to make money out of other people's misfortunes.
In years gone by, a few things and people used to disgust me about the world we live in.
Nowdays I'm sad to say there's many more... 

Doing This Gymnastic Routine Is So Easy...

I know you're all thinking hey that's so easy,
as you relax and enjoy the comfort of your sun loungers and reclining chairs.
But let me tell you, it's harder than it looks.
I went out and bought a pair of tight fitting shorts last week, called up a few of my friends, well all of them actually. I only had four. And said hey come on over, there's this really cool thing we can do together.
No nothing too kinky, just a bit of bonding.
Well it didn't turn out so well.
They are now either in hospital or traction or both. One of them, well never mind, and another is unable to move and when the other two come out of their comas we might be able to discuss our ongoing or not ongoing friendship.
And then there's my hernia...

There's This Crazy Cube House In Holland...

This confusing and crazy cube house is also very concerning. Visually it's a disconcerting hotchpotch and you'd be forgiven if you thought there was a few houses here. I really can't make up my mind if it's interesting or not but it does nothing for me, I think it's incredibly ugly and I'm sure the builders had nightmares figuring out how to build the strangely shaped structure.
Whatever, the Crazy Cube House as it's known is situated in the centre of Rotterdam and is available for rent.

This Very Stylish Architect's Home And Office Is Less Than Eight Feet Wide...

Pieter Peerlings and Silvia Mertens of sculpt(IT) a young progressive team of creative architects, were given the task of turning a piece of narrow, waste space between two buildings into a usable, livable, workable space.
They did. With a lot of style.
The whole four floor structure is hung in a steel skeleton with solid wooden floors separating the spaces. The stairs are a one piece structure.
The downstairs, ground floor is the office, dining's on the first, relaxing on the second, sleeping on the third and if you want a bath under the stars, try the top floor...
