Hannah Brencher Thinks We Should Write Love Letters To Strangers...

Hannah Brencher's family always wrote letters to each other, yes letters, with a pen, on paper, and using stamps, and envelopes, posted them, yes, to each other.
And these letters would arrive at the delighted recipients mail box.
Hannah started writing letters as a kind of therapy when at university. She'd write love letters and leave them for strangers to find.
Then, in the course of a year she wrote and mailed out over 400 hand penned letters.
Her random acts of love and kindness soon turned into a global initiative.
This lovely lady who also writes a blog. She believes in the power of the pen on paper and has started The World Needs More Love Letters which simply encourages strangers to exchange love letters.

Blanche Russell's Unique Stone House In Arizona's Marble Canyon...

Blanche Russell, sometime in 1927, was driving in the desolate Balancing Rocks, Vermilion Cliffs area around Arizona's Marble Canyon when her car broke down.
So the not to be fazed lady simply camped there overnight.
Deciding she loved the splendid isolation, the solitude, the scenery and the endless blue sky, she and her husband Bill bought some land and in the 1930's established a camp and a small trading company at Soup Creek and proceeded to build this unique stone house and its' attendant outbuildings.
I was out wandering as one does and found it featured on Tiny House Swoon.
Nowdays Blanche and Bill's house is called Cliff Dwellers Lodge and welcomes visitors with its delightfully quirky design.

Greenpeace Brings Emergency Power To The People...

Greenpeace built a mobile solar array attached to a truck some years ago and gave it the very apt name of Rolling Sunlight.
The emergency unit proved its worth in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy recently.
Stationed in one of the worst hit areas, New York's Rockaway's, the truck which can store fifty kilowatt hours of power was truly a ray of sunshine for the residents who were able to charge their mobile phones and other devices. And keep in touch with family and friends.
A great idea to bring emergency power to the people in disaster situations.
Solar panels have never been so inexpensive.
Perhaps you could have your own emergency solar set-up or talk with your community about providing a similar sort of unit...

Yesterday's Eclipse Of The Sun Was Very Very Weird...

Suddenly I noticed it was very cold.
Suddenly I noticed it was very dark.
Suddenly I wondered what the hell was going on. Was there something wrong with me?
Was I having an out of body experience?
Was this the end of the world or just mine?
I looked up at my E-Meter which tells me all I need to know and more about my Solar System.
It said 0.7 amps were hitting my panels.
Minutes before it had been 18 point something.
And then I realised.
Today is Wednesday and I'm in Northland and the sun was to be 90 percent eclipsed by the moon. It would be more noticeable here.
If I'd been on Australias' Great Barrier Reef or in their city of Cairns, I could have shared the total eclipse experience with sixty thousand scientists and astromoners from all over the world.
But where I was was weird enough...
