Divorce And Commuting...

I'm really not sure what one has to do with the other but a recent study here in New Zealand has found that people who have a commute to work of more than 45 minutes on a daily basis have a 40% higher chance of getting divorced than those who have shorter commutes to and from their jobs.
I'm so glad I'm single and unemployable...

Bath Night...

Where there's a will there's a way and George wasn't about to let anything stop him cleaning up for his hot date...

Hot Dogs...

Wow, these dogs are really hot.
They were two of the fifty that gathered for the 6th Annual Dog Surfing Champs at Imperial Beach in California on June 5.
Winners were judged on long wave riding, confidence and a sense of fashion...

Arise Sir Keith...

I knew when I woke this morning.
I felt a certain certainty about the events that would unfold on this day, the day we in New Zealand officially celebrate Queen Elizabeth's Birthday and I just knew that Liz would make me a knight, no matter how errant, in this years list of Birthday Honours.
She had plenty of reasons to do so as you well know.
She's only too well aware of my philanthropic gestures and then there's my efforts in Conservation. And for god's sake she reads this blog every day so at least I thought I'd get the gong for literature.
But no, it appears it just wasn't to be.
Oh well there's always next year...

Very Delicious...

Winter's here and it's time for my favourite soup to make a welcome appearance.
This was simmering on the firetop yesterday afternoon as the rain danced on the roof.
It's an old fashioned style of soup, but then I'm an old fashioned guy.
Put some good oil in the bottom of a heavy saucepan then throw in some onion, garlic, leeks, carrots, a handful of sultanas, potato, celery and of course pumpkin. Mix it all up so it's all lightly coated with the oil, then add some stock and some good curry powder. Then a tin of chopped tomatoes. Top it up with some water, put the lid on and sit down and relax.
Very easy and very delicious...

Magic Pizzas...

I visited one of my favouritist Farmers Markets last evening, picked up some wonderful fresh fruit and vegetables and had the delight of again bargaining and bantering with the stallholders.
Of course a visit there isn't complete without one of Luigis magic pizzas, cooked in his wood fired pizza oven on a trailer. Mmmm, with a sour dough base and a gorgeous filling, it made a delicious simple 'slow food' supper.
Fantasmic for this Foodie...

Supermarkets. Playing The Percentages...

I'm delighted to congratulate Pak'n Save, the no frills supermarket chain that I often frequent, for being the cheapest supermarket in New Zealand for the eleventh successive year, beating it's closest rivals by 10%.
But I'm disgusted that so many supermarkets put the price of fruit and vegetables up by 100% and the price of beer and wine up by a mere 1 to 10%. To attract customers.
Marketing. Another name for manipulation and greed...
