Nature's Beauty...

Doesn't time and nature conspire to create wonderful rustic compositions.
This beautiful collaboration can be found at The Old Quarry Art Studios in Whangarei.
Very Wabi-Sabi...

Postcard...

Looking down the river this morning from the beautiful Whangarei Town Basin Marina.
Many overseas yachts come for a while and stay.
Sometimes forever.
And as I've said before, who could blame them.
TFT left town today for a
couple of weeks at the beach.
And then...

A Chinese Patchwork...

This amazing patchwork is in China's Yunnan Province in the southwestern part of Kunming, 2600 feet above sea level.
Yes, it is a very remote area and minerals like oxidised iron that colour the soil are abundant.
Different coloured crops are planted purposefully by the families who tend the land so when viewed from afar it looks like a beautifully painted or quilted landscape.
Different seasons, different lights and different times all combine to produce wonderful effects.
It is called Lexiaguo, the place where beautiful colours set.
To look at some more truly breathtaking images of this amazing place, simply google Lexiaguo.
Doing so might make your day...

Sew What?

I said I was going to sew a Duvet cover.
Didn't you hear me?
It's going to be Victorian Crazy Quilting patchwork style.
The nice ladies at the Bernina Sewing Centre in Whangarei have been giving me stitching lessons, sew I'm good to go.
Or good to sew.
The duvet will be about 2m x 2m and because each little piece is only about 75mm square, it's going to take a while.
I've never sewed before but it's going to be fun.
Sew watch for updates...

The Latest BMW Turbo Shed...

Karl Wanaselja of Leger Wanaselja Architecture built this shed out of car panels and windshields. It goes nowhere very fast, uses no fuel and you don't need a licence to drive it.
Wonder what it's like in an earthquake...

Earthquake Hits New Zealand's Christchurch...

Early Saturday morning a 7.1 earthquake hit New Zealand's second largest city.
Over 500 buildings were damaged in the quake and fortunately there were few casualties.
Many Christchurch folk are homeless at the moment and damage repair is estimated to be well over two billion dollars.
Experts have been warning of a large earthquake to hit the area but this they say was not it.
That's not something to look forward to...
The Flying Tortoise is 1500 kilometres away, safely in the north of the North Island.
To those who've sent messages of concern, thankyou...

Please Mr Postman...

Tiwai and Rose from way up north in Kaitaia are off on a five year jaunt around New Zealand.
To make it 'easy' for friends and family to stay in touch and because they use the 'Snail Mail' way to communicate, they're taking their letterbox with them...
