Could This Be The Greatest Wave Ever Surfed...

I believe this is the greatest wave ever surfed says photographer Brian Bielmann who couldn't believe his eyes when he realised he'd taken the shot of a lifetime.
So far nobody has disagreed with his comment, and certainly not surfer Nathan Fletcher who had trouble realising his head was still attached to his body and he was still alive.
It happened a while ago at the famed Teahupo'o surf break on the south west coast of Tahiti and the full incredible story is here...

They're amongst the tiniest of the world's birds but the Hummingbird, so named because of the humming sound created by their wings, while hovering, around fifty times a second but as high as two hundred times a second when flying.
At speeds in excess of 54kph or 34mph.
Frontwards, backwards or upside down.
Chris Morgan specialises in photographing birds and was lucky enough while holidaying in Costa Rica recently to have these gorgeous Green Crowned Brilliants pose for him.

Pastafarian Niko Alm Wins The Right To Wear A Pasta-Strainer On His Official Austrian Driver Licence Photograph...

Wearing the pasta strainer is an integral part of my Pastafarian religion says Austrian driver Niko Alm, a self confessed athiest.
Niko belongs to the international Church Of The Flying Spaghetti Monster, a light hearted US based faith whose members adhere to the dogma that no dogmas be allowed in their religion. Friday is evidently their holy day.
The Austrian authorities initially required Mr Alm to obtain a doctor's certificate to show he was psychologically fit to drive.
Good on you and your fellow believers Niko.
We need to celebrate the small victories.
No matter how tiny or weird they may be...

Newlyweds Mr And Mrs Stuart Start Married Life On A High...

The newly wedded Belinda and Campbell Stuart started their married life a few days ago
on quite a high.
Photographer Eric Ronald whisked them away from Criffel Station by helicopter immediately after the ceremony to the top of Mount Roy in New Zealand's beautiful Wanaka area.

The Little Caribbean Country Of Haiti Leads The World In Solar Powered Solutions...

The little Caribbean country of Haiti,
the first independent nation of Latin America, has a colourful past, often fraught with internal problems from the time it was established after a successful slave revolt in 1804, is leading the world with it's pioneering solar application.
Haiti has just opened the world's biggest solar powered hospital in Mirebalais,
north of Port-au-Prince.
Quite remarkable for a little country where 20 percent of its population  of ten million people has no access to electricity.
Opening just last month, the 1800 solar panels they've installed generate enough power to run six surgical suites, enough to attend to over sixty thousand patients and already deliver more than eight hundred babies.
Maintaining electricity supply in hospitals is a matter of life and death and while it's fortunate that Haiti is blessed with a great deal of sunshine, they are showing the way
to the rest of the world...

Iran Air Flight 655. Malaysian Airlines Flight 17. History Keeps Repeating Itself. We Shouldn't Forget To Remember...

On July 3, 1988 Iran Air Flight 655 was an Iran Air Civilian Passenger flight from Tehran to Dubai that was somehow, shockingly, horrifically, mistakenly, shot down by the United States Navy guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes.
All two hundred and ninety innocent men and women including sixty six children on board died.
The incident took place in Iranian airspace over Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf.
The airplane, an Airbus A300 B2-203 was destroyed by SM-2MR surface to air missiles fired from the Vincennes.
We should never forget to remember...
