"I'm a homosexual and I'm afraid about what my future will be and that people won't like me".
Photographer Brendon Stanton has, for the last five years, been making images featuring
Humans Of New York.
This photo of a beautiful brave and sad young man has got to be one of the most poignant...

Te dear soul needs to be able to share his abundant love with another Human being.
ReplyDeleteIn The Symposium, the Greek philosopher Aristophanes writes of the love between Achiles and Petroclus.
He explains that there are 3 sexes: 1)The men and women who love each other, 2) the men who love men and 3) the women who love women.
Sounds Greek to simple heterosexual me, but you can't deny it really....Jennybee
Once this story and photo gets around, he will receive an outpouring of support. The United States Supreme Court has ruled gay marriage is a civil right and it is now legal in all 50 states. The majority of U.S. citizens support the ruling. It's a new society and this young one will grow up in an environment no previous generation experienced. He will find love and happiness and will flourish!
ReplyDeleteYes, the photo and words were heart wrenching. He got so many, many positive responses, including a lovely one from Hilary Clinton (not an HC fan, but loved what she wrote). I hope so much encouragement helps him in his journey.
ReplyDeleteThis is why it's good the world has changed. Not so long ago, this boy might have been strapped to a gurney, had electrodes attached to him, and been repeatedly subjected to powerful electric shocks, in an attempt to "cure" him. I've met a man to whom this happened when he was thirteen years old. It's the sort of thing that happens when we are required to be "normal."
ReplyDeleteI hope things keep changing for the better.
